While you are on the internet, please visit www.studyisland.com which is a great educational website. Ask your child about it. They have their own user name and password. They can go on it at any time and practice learning the Math and Language Arts standards for their grade level.
Please check your child's agenda or homework notebook daily and sign it after you have checked to see that all of the assignments are completed. If there is a problem and your child is unable to complete their homework, please write a note in the agenda.
Please help your child with their organizational skills by checking and cleaning out their agenda and backpack. They should be receiving new informational flyers every Thursday.
Remember your child should be reading every night. 2nd graders should be reading at least 25 minutes and 3rd graders must read at least 35 minutes. Please remember to sign the green reading sheet daily. Green reading sheets are collected on the first school day of the following month. Please help your child to add up the minutes they read for the entire month.
Scientific research shows that the more minutes a child reads daily, the better reader they become. After they read, ask them questions about what they have read. Ask them who the characters are and what they know about them based on their actions and words. Also, ask them to tell you what happened in the story and what they think the author's message is.
Your child should also be practicing their Spelling and Vocabulary words each night. They should have their vocabulary flash cards with the word on one side and the definition/synonym on the back. They need help learning the definitions. They are tested each Friday on both the Spelling and Vocabulary words.
